LET THEM EAT CAKE…

Today I was presented with a cake on my next to the last day at my soon to be old job. It was a marble cake with fluffy white and pink icing. Of course, as great as it tasted, I didn’t want to take it home and have it tempt me all weekend, so I started giving it away.

This is my friend Phoebe. Phoebe always smiles and is like the brightest sun even on a rainy day. We laugh a lot together and I will miss seeing her every day.

Phoebe is generous and thought she’d take her mom a piece of cake, too. Trouble was figuring out how to carry it along with the drink she had. She stacked them as you see above, and the picture below shows what happened when the stack shifted.

Yeah. It always lands icing down.

Thanks, Phoebe for the memory!

WHAT HAPPENS IN GALVESTON…

…STAYS IN GALVESTON…

Dana, Candie and I had a great time in Galveston today. It was the second day of the Lone Star Bike Rally so the streets were lined with every kind of motorcycle you can imagine.

We ate lunch at Fish Tales on the Seawall. I had the most amazing crab cake sandwich! The motorcycles would rumble by, but whenever Dana tried to talk, they were the loudest. It was funny. Poor Dana.

I love having a zoom lens… this was a great shot.

We cruised The Strand then went to the beach for a short break. We took some pictures and relaxed and I dug my toenails into the sand.

While we walked, I found this great conch shell. I stuck it into the sand. I didn’t bring it home… I’m trying to cut back on what I bring home from the beach.

Conch Shell
Seawall
A feathered friend.

The best news of all… I was in the sun for more than a half hour and didn’t burst into flames! Seriously, though, I had a blast with two great friends and we laughed until our stomachs hurt. That’s my idea of a good time.

PLASTIC FORKS AND SALISBURY STEAK

For the second time in as many weeks, I have broken a plastic fork eating my Healthy Choice Salisbury steak. Last week, the incident was funny, but no steak or persons were harmed in the breaking of said plastic fork.

Today, while sitting with no less than 8 people, my fork broke and one half shot up in the air and landed in the the sauce surrounding my steak. If the incident had ended there, I would have been satisfied, but seeing the sauce dotting my friend Kelly’s arm and sweater made me want to crawl under the table.

I am glad I have friends who laugh with me, As I wiped off Kelly’s sweater (I promise it was one dot! You believe me, don’t you Kelly?), I shook my head and made a mental note to carry the plastic knife with me next time.

Fortunately for me, one of Kelly’s lifelong dreams is to try out new perfumes, and today she was able to test Eau de Salisbury Steak… or as I like to call it, Le Splash O’Broken Plastique Forke.

COORDINATING WARDROBE

This is what happens when Rae says, “Oh, go shop there, they have great clothes!” and you don’t call each other to discuss what you’re wearing to work. LOL.

Rae and I ran into each other before lunch and Rae screams, “this is like a high school nightmare!” Actually, we found this coincidence rather hilarious and decided to commemorate the occasion with a picture.

Even just a few years ago, however, I would have been mortified and ran home to change clothes. Now, this is just another funny moment in my crazy life.

If you can learn to laugh at yourself, even moments like this can bring much laughter.

We even sat by each other at lunch. 🙂

A WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE

(10 things that make me think of a certain Nerkian – you know who you are!)

I apologize if you don’t get most of these, but hey, I’m getting back into the swing of doing “lists.” I know of one person who will enjoy this immensely and you (and you know who you are, too) will get your list soon… or you could try and guess who my favorite Nerkian is!

10) Penny Lane. I heard that song this week and started singing, “Anderson is in my ears and in my eyes…” and Jene’ turned to me and wondered if I bumped my head too hard or something.

9) Love Snaps (TM). Rubber bands – free entertainment. And that’s all I have to say about that…

8) Noxious fumes and the woman who gave birth to 16 babies at once. Stay up until 3 a.m. with a good friend and read The Star or the National Enquirer and fun will commence. I mean, if you believe those stories, you need more help than I can give you.

7) Well YOU can be…. While driving in the country recently… well, I saw this barn door… and started laughing.

6) Green Acres. Still can’t stand that song unless it is sung by a certain group of people. Whenever that Old Navy commercial came on the air, I cried out in protest!

5) Bari Sax. No, not a person. An instrument of epic proportions. Anchors a jazz ensemble (in my humble opinion). HONK!

4) Bright orange birthday cards. Very LARGE, blinding orange birthday cards…

3) HELLO! My name is Inigo Montoya… you killed my father… prepare to die. I mean, I can quote this movie backwards and forwards, but the Nerkian can trump me on this one…and several Mel Brooks movies.

2) Ohio… is how you say hello in Japanese. The other “Ohio” is a state full of nuts… I mean Buckeyes.

1) MacGyver. The other day, I was jerryrigging something… with duct tape, a paper clip, an eraser and some sticky tak… ah, the memories…

And for honorable mention… think Popeye…

Okay, that is it for this evening… I will list more later!
